Resistance Bands Or Free Weights?

There are so many different pieces of home workout equipment to choose from now. There seems to be a new infomercial on every week or two talking about the latest and greatest piece of fitness equipment. The one thing that is becoming a must have is a set of exercise bands.

A resistance band is made out of different thicknesses of rubber. The thicker the band the harder it is to stretch causing tension. Some bands being made right now have the same effect of lifting fifty pounds. When you get a set of bands you are giving yourself so many new exercises to do.

What is common nowadays is people buying a set of resistance bands instead of free weights. This way there are different levels of tension for you to work with when doing different exercises. A 45 pound band can be used even if you could not do it with a free weight of the same weight. It can be pretty tough. Most people like starting out with the bands because it gives them the chance to start building on their muscles and then they switch over to free weights. Free weights do work your muscles from top to bottom and the bands only work it at the top of the rep. A band has more tension at the top of a rep and a free weight has more through out the whole rep.

As you get stronger with the bands you will want to switch it up to use a heavier one. This will create more range of motion when you do workouts like bicep curls, tricep extensions, and shoulder shrugs. Your body will need the heavier band to get you the results you are looking for. Resistance bands are one of the things you need to do P90X with.

There are a lot of good things to say about using resistance bands for a workout. A couple reasons to choose them are they take up less floor space, are much cheaper, and you do not need to buy a big rack to keep all of your free weights on. To start off with you should take a look at the P90X resistance bands as they come in a pouch for you to take with when you travel. If you are looking for a cost effective way to get stronger arms and a leaner upper body then resistance bands are the way to go.
